TYPE: knædug
TECHNIQUE: baldyring, square cut work, cut work Hedebo, Hvidsøm
”Knædug” with “Baldyring”, square cut work, cut work Hedebo, and ”Hvidsøm”. The ”Baldyring” fillings are placed all over the linen and are surrounded with vines and leaves in satin stitch. The ”Baldyring” fillings are simple as they mainly consist of scallops, points and beading loops. At the top one can barely see the remains of the monogram AADD. The two leaves over the initials are filled with ”Hvidsøm” fillings, in contrast to the rest of the embroidery. There is a square cut work border with reindeer and a stylish tree of life just above the plaited warp on the bottom of the piece.
Details
Please note
• Two square areas in the upper border and four in the lower border embroidered with cut work Hedebo
• The lower border of square cut work, H hemstitch, and plaited warp, is made of a different fabric
• The embroidered vines and leaves were made with great technical skill, as opposed to many ”Baldyring” fillings which do not bear witness to any great skill
• The area around the monogram is worn out, which might suggest that old monograms have been removed and new added
